THE SPIRIT OF OUR ORGANIZATION
All volunteers are equal, just as all are equal members of Christ and members of His Church. All Syrian Orthodox youth belong to the community, because we are all called by God to form one community of faith. The first Christians were “devoted to the apostles’ teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer… they remained together and had everything in common” (Acts 2:42 & 44). It is this loving and respectful bond between believers that builds a church community. Selfishness, power struggles, greed, and jealousy break it down (Galatians 5:13-26).

Our work can only mean something in the eyes of God if it is inspired by the one commandment in which Jesus summarized His entire message: “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command” (John 15:12-13). Jesus Himself showed that this love is especially expressed in mutual service, when He washed His disciples’ feet and said, “If I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet” (John 13:14).
